This new blog is part of a release in conjunction with Ozzy's latest creator owned comic of the same name. Sails of Blood, will undoubtedly be full of the hard hitting action and great art that Ozzy is quickly becoming known for. When questioned about the site and storyline further Ozzy let us in on the fact that this storyline is actually a pre-cursor to an epic story that has been nearly ten years in the making. Dark Elf Designs would like to announce it's brand new series titled "Attack of the Giant" the first double-sized issue is to be released on Easter, a story about a small boy named Peter who is turned into a rabbit by a traveling Magician and notes that daily he is doubling in size. By the end of the week he is 512 feet tall and can help but reeking havoc everywhere in his new bunny form, crushing buildings, vehicles and people alike with every hop. Peter's path of destruction is halted momentarily when the government figures out a way to get him the largest carrot in the world and fill it with a powerful sleep agent. They then track down the Magician to find an antidote. The first issue to be called "Attack of the Giant: Peter" will be followed in May by another story featuring another gigantic mishap with an retired pro basketball player titled "Attack of the Giant: Johnson". Later titles with a similar theme will include "Attack of the Giant: Willy", "Attack of the Giant: Percy", and "Attack of the Giant: John Thomas". Dark Elf Designs hopes this will get a rise in production as well as it's fan base.

Since the 80's Brian Germain (Hey that's me!) has been bringing professional quality art to the masses. In the year 1999 however the culmination of that art developed into what would be the start of a company whose basic idea was that for every company out there NOT accepting artists and writers who have never been published before, there were at least a dozen artists and writers who had never been published before. The idea for a company like "Image" was in Brian's mind five years before that particular company's inception. Now with concept for a company that involved scouting and publishing unknown creative talent. Dark Elf Designs was born. The road is sometimes long and oft wrought with peril but through it all we have managed to stay afloat and experience growth, in even the toughest of economic times. And we will weather this storm as well. We have watched major companies like CROSSGEN and CHAOS fold up and close their doors. While creators from those companies have thrived thus proving it's not the company that's the most important thing, it's the creators involved. Dark Elf Designs would like to wish a warm holiday greeting to everyone that has supported over the years and ask for your continued support through the years. We couldn't have done many of the great thigns we've accomplished without the creators and fans of Dark Elf Designs. Stay tuned to upcoming projects and Join our forum for more information.

Tangled Webs and the Death of a Superstar.

Michael Jackson Died yesterday and the world has lost a superstar. He wasn't always popular and he didn't always shine as brightly as most people remember him for. After the slew of allegation that pretty much ruined his career I almost see his heart attack as peace of mind from a world who loved him and ridiculed him. This world our earth is great because at times we not only learn to deal with the differences of others, but instead in fact celebrate them. When people get famous there are always clingers on and new found "friends" that wish to take advantage and exploit those differences. It is sad that in the day and age we live in that because someone is eccentric and different they become the target of ridicule, ostracism, and even violence. I know there was a time in recent history when Michael's entire race was shunned. It seems a sad statement on the face of history that in the year following the election of the first African American President of the United States, That it's first African American King of Pop, Rock and Soul has died of a broken heart. Let us look at the career of this legend and note that history should never repeat itself like this. O.J. Was acquitted and no one is hounding him, but Michael Jackson was acquitted twice and there were those that pursued him all the way to his death.
Every time an artist dies a little piece of me seems to feel like it goes with them. Michael Jackson was indeed among the many, but sadly compared with the rest of the world we artists are among the few. Let us hope this day society will stop pointing blame and fingers so much at everyone else because of their differences and point some back at themselves for the shame they caused to a falling star.

I am not sure why all the RSS Feeds aren't working Just when you think you have them taken care of something happens and BAM! Another issue. The good news is we are working on the problem and we are still overhauling the site we have TONS of new Artwork and Images to put up ans well as member status updates and some great news about possible services Dark Elf Designs will offer in the near future. Including Audio Books and Movies with it's Partner Companies Cat's Pajamas Media and COM Publishing. Make the Xcape!!!

The year 2007 Dark Elf Designs and it’s associates brought you a convention, its purpose to create an Xcape from the average convention in an attempt to make the guests feel like "guests" again and to make the patrons feel like they are getting their money’s worth. Tired of over-priced conventions the founders of this con created a united front dedicated to the idea that Honesty, Integrity, and Fellowship were more than just ideas for movies and comic books, they were a way of life. United we can create conventions that patrons and guests alike will want to return to again and again. This Phenomenon known as XcapeCON Busted out of its ideological prison and gained substance in the form of XcapeCON1 thrown together in roughly six weeks the turnout was more than we could have hoped for. Nearly a thousand people made the trek to Mid-Michigan, where they were greeted with friendly faces, sights and sounds the likes of which many had never previously experienced. With no TV and nor Radio advertising based on a flyer and web campaign of advertisement the success of XcapeCON1 was phenomenal. 70 tables with over 100 guests sold out in six weeks, over 1,000 patrons came to see Fat Momma (Who Wants to be a Superhero) and Jason Carter (Babylon5). This year the founders of XcapeCON are seeking to out do themselves with XcapeCON2 and their "BREAKOUT" After party.

XcapeCON2 doubles the amount of participating table spaces, as well as the number of guests and vendors. XcapeCON2 is projecting triple or more for attendance and will be doing web, television, radio, and newspaper advertising along with a vicious 12 month flyer campaign to over 100 stores, events, festivals and conventions. All of this and still keeping the same great low entry costs as well as the same great low exhibitor fees, not to mention FREE PARKING!!!

Applicants must be talented, driven, hard working, able to meet a deadline, willing to work for a percentage, willing to work on other people's stories not just their own, willing to sign a standard NDC (Non-Disclosure Agreement) if necessary, Willing to follow scripts and instruction where necessary and willing to believe they will be part of something greater than themselves. End of Year Shutdown

Starting December 26th and ending January 14th Dark Elf Designs will have a midwinter shutdown. What does this mean exactly? Well the site will still be up and some of DED's member's will be reachable. Brian Germain will be out of town for about three weeks and therefore unreachable. feel free to send e-mail still but don't expect a swift reply and don't be surprised if your e-mail bounces back to you the mailbox fills up fast. When we return we will be scheduling a live Michigan member meeting as well as a web based meeting done via the yahoo group or yahoo messenger or some other predetermined chat client. The Death of The Man, The Legend Lives On.

Many great people have been lost in the last few years. Mike Wieringo, Dave Cockrum, Johnny Cash, the list of legendary figures is lengthy at best. But this year just months after his interview in USA Today, Another Man of Legendary stature in his own time passes into legend. Evel Knievel, known in everything from comic books to lunch boxes, clothing, TV Specials, toys and action figures, in the 70's he was a pop culture Icon I even remember owning Evel and Robbie Knievel Action Figures and stunts cycles as well as even an Evel Knievel bicycle. as all great things find their endings so too must the living story of Evel Knievel he passed away December 30th 2007 after a long battle with a terminal Illness. Gone from this earth his legend will live on.

Friday, November 30 marked the end of what will forever be remembered as the longest and most courageous battle between one man, a man we all know as the world's greatest daredevil, and death. Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel died in Clearwater, Florida, finally succumbing after nearly a three-year bout with the terminal lung disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 69.

His death was preceded by more than 40 years of constant battle against the persistent pain of broken bones and severe trauma after jumping and crashing motorcycles like no man had ever done before. In addition, he fought to overcome the tremendous obstacles of diabetes, hepatitis C, a liver transplant, numerous surgeries and two strokes.

Knievel's legacy as America's Legendary Daredevil, Last of the Gladiators, and King of the Stuntmen will undeniably live on among millions of fans, past, present and future. However, the memories of the man apart from his legend will live on even stronger in the hearts of his friends and family. Despite his well-known swagger of self confidence, the legacy he wished for most of all was simply to be an inspiration.

"The fame of great men ought to be judged always by the means they used to acquire it."

By this maxim, nothing will ever be able to take away or challenge the things accomplished by Evel Knievel.

Whether it was unmatched courage or just an absolute unwillingness to give in to fear, Robert Craig Knievel was a man's man through all the days of his life. He took great pride in the simply stated, yet most difficult to accomplish principles: always living up to his word, never shirking the responsibility or consequences for his actions regardless of the personal risk, and never, not ever, failing to stop trying.

Knievel was born in Butte, Montana on October 17, 1938 to Robert Edward and Ann (Keough) Knievel. He and his younger brother Nic were raised by the loving family of paternal grandparents Ignatius and Emma Knievel.

Growing up and living in Butte were some of the most valued times of his life. His fame took him far and wide across the country and even over seas, but Knievel never let go of the love and pride he had for his hometown.

Growing up in a blue-collar mining town, Knievel attended Butte public schools before serving in the U.S. Army reserves. As a young man he was always an exceptional athlete, hard worker and determined individual. Knievel explored and excelled in many different professions, if only for a short time, before finding his calling as the ultimate daredevil.

During his prime as a bona fide celebrity, Knievel enjoyed his spoils to the highest. He loved fast cars, private airplanes, fancy yachts and the finest clothes and jewelry money could buy. He was sought out by Hollywood and remained friends with many famous people until his death.

In the end, he had a few regrets, but he always sincerely strived to do the right thing. He never forgot who his real friends were. He never forgot his love for his family. And he never forgot the place from where he came, what he'd learned or what others had done to help him get to where he did. The red, white and blue for which he is famous were a tribute to his Butte character as much as they were for America. In his last years, one of the greatest honors was being able to share his hometown with his world of fans and to participate and take pride in the celebration of his annual event, "Evel Knievel Days."

He dearly loved his grandchildren and he always made it a point to stay in touch with the people he loved the most, his friends and family. And lastly, most important to him above all was his new-found faith in Jesus Christ. Just as he always took great care in surrounding himself with the best people he could depend upon to help him make his jumps during his motorcycle career, Knievel found his greatest friend of all in preparation for his final leap from life. He was profoundly happy that he gave his life to God, who comforted him and gave him the strength he needed to make it through the end.

Knievel is survived by his loyal friend and wife, Krystal Kennedy-Knievel, whom he married in 1999. She stood by his side through his greatest struggles with health until his death. He will also be very missed by sidekick, "Rocket," his pet Maltese, as well as Rocket's brother, "Squirt." Knievel's in-laws include Krystal's mother Sylvia and her husband Wayne Croft; father Glen Kennedy, and Krystal's sister Shawn and husband Rory with their two children.

He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend of 38 years, Linda Bork Knievel. Though they divorced, Linda and Evel had four children that all made them proud. Son, Kelly Knievel and daughter-in-law Shelli with granddaughter Lily; son, Robbie Knievel and granddaughters Krysten and Karmen, with great-granddaughter Analiese; daughter Tracey and son-in-law Mitch McCloud with grandchildren Josiah, Jesse, Melody, Cody, Cole, Casey and Dusty with wife Rachel and great-granddaughter Lucy; and his youngest daughter Alicia, with son-in-law Matt Vincent and grandchildren Madelyn, Jaicee, Rye and his sixteenth grandchild expected this June.

Other surviving family members include his stepmother, Mrs. Robert Edward Knievel; brother, Nic and his wife Rusty; sister, Kristy and brother-in-law Hugh Lawrence; sister, Renee and brother-in-law Bill Slaughter; sister Robin and brother-in-law John Dick; and sisters Loretta Young and Kadie Boney. His is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and his millions and millions of fans.

Public services will be held for family, friends and fans at the Butte Civic Center at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10th. A private Christian burial and graveside services will take place at the Mountain View Cemetery.

XcapeCON After Words

XcapeCON1 went really great, everyone had a good time it seems. we are in the planning stages for XcapeCON2...
here is some of the feedback we recieved about the convention.....

I went to birch run last night... ... a little small, about thirty tables, mostly local artest and books...they were cool, got about 5 different comics to give a try....there were something like five stores that had desplays, so lots of long boxes of books. the big names were fat mama and Messner-Loebs, got his autograph and talked to him for a minite.
picked up a few art pics and couple of toys.. in all a good time, glad it was close to home, took about two hours total...now i did go friday at 3 and was gone by 5:30, so maybe that is why it was a little slow, few tables were not up and running yet. some display people were setting up. I did not want to stay for the rock and roll (old ) but in all worth the six bucks...

C. Manolete-

Hello everybody,
As you may well already know, The day Manolete was Killed performed last weekend at the birch run expo center as a part of XcapeCon comic and pop culture convention. it was a wonderful day filled with sweaty pubescent boys, past their prime adult film stars, amigo electric scooters, and "free seconds" of spaghetti at big boy. although all of this was cool, i think the night reached its crescendo when the power failed halfway through our second song...... perhaps it iissss posible to rock too hard. anyways, i hope your all having great days, and if you couldnt make it to the show ( which is all of you >:(

I just went to the Xcape Con, at the Birch Run Expo Center... And wadda experience that was!

There was this one guy who had a zillion $.50 comics, another guy who was practically giving comics away at $1.00 each, and from there I got a comic from a friend of mine... And walked away with-out even a penny in my name!

I also met Fat Momma, from Season 1, of Stan Lee's TVseries: Who Wants To Be A Super-Hero? She was nice to meet, though I thought her comics were on the expensive side... I made sure I bought issue #1, and got a picture with her...

I also met Brett Pinson, from: Boomtown Press, who was interested in maybe doing a short story with me in an upcoming comic of his... All fingers crossed, hopefully we'll be able to work something out, and do a comic together!

Well that's all she wrote for today... Hopefully I can post some art some-time soon.

Woah, what a weekend! For the first con I've held a table at (my second comic con ever!) I think I did better than what I expected. I made my table money back, plus some :3 I also met tons of great peeps who were a blast to be around.

Kudos to you guys putting together the show. I was actually pretty well impressed. Given how little time you had you did a great job of getting it going. Given all the circumstances, and the fact that it was a first try, I really think it came off quite well. The really cool thing is that I didn't hear a single real complaint. Everyone fully understood what was going on and everyone seemed to be looking forward to the next go-round.

I would come back and do the con again. Espically if it was bigger with more customers :) I did well though with the amount of people we had.....keep me posted on any shows comming up.

Xcape Con: November 2-3, 2007; Birch Run Expo Center, Birch Run, Michigan: This is the new con on the block here in Michigan, and for a first show they did a super good job. There was a great guest list, a good amount of vendors doing different aspects of the con world, and there was a decent crowd of shoppers, fanboys, and curious onlookers. It was nice to run across Randy Zimmerman ("Spank The Monkey" comics) as well as Brett Pinson (Boomtown Comics) and Layne Toth ("Faith: Warrior Princess") again; it has been too long in all three cases. I also got to meet some nice new people as well, including Terrell Culbert from "All-Girl Gang War" and his model entourage, newcomer anime artist Allison Mohler (I hope you can do Jafax next June!), and metal and chainmail artist Amanda Shaw (great stuff--her and I will do a jewelry line soon). I was quite pleased with the show and thought it went very well when considered that it was a first year show--I have attended five year old shows that were just terrible and this one was enjoyable and well run. It was also nicely priced for the fans at the door--only $6 to get in, so that was nice. I am hoping that the promoters are able to do another similar show next year. I also hope that these three young Michigan shows--Thriller Chiller, Xcape, and Youmacon--can coordinate to be on different weekends in 2008 so that the fans can attend all three of them and I can hit all three shows next year as well. Here is hoping.

I had a great time at the show and would do it again if you had it next year. I do think that the show and the guest would be better served if the gates opened at 9am and closed earlier then 8pm.

I think next year, with more planning and more time to promote, the show will draw better. Get a couple of top flight comic artist and the show will become a must attend for fans.

Well, we have begin blowing the embers of the Idol bonfire, tossing on some new fuel, and guess what...the ol' contest has plenty of life to burst into a whole new flame in 2007. Analogies aside, it's looking like this year's going to be the biggest yet...both in participation, and media coverage. If you haven't seen elsewhere already, check out the Idol 07 page for the guidelines. We're so excited about it, we may just explode. So that's the lead story for the week: Idol Starting....Nuff Said!!! You'll note that we're back down to one ad over there to the right for the Kick Start this week. If we haven't made it clear: We'll post a FREE AD there of that size for a week. The Dimestore homepage is viewed tens of thousands of times a week. All you have to do is add a "Self Publisher Association" tag on your Comicspace - then let us know! Oh, and THANK YOU to Angry Dog Press for the PAID ad. We haven't seen many of those, and we really need them. I keep touting the hits we're getting...and folks, we jumped by over 100% on the per hour hits since last week due to Idol rummblings, this is a GREAT time to put up a cheap banner at the top of the site. Of the Banners in rotation right now, there are NONE that have been seen LESS than 15,000 times (one has 60,000 displays), nor been clicked FEWER than 200 times (and that's not the one viewed the least, oddly enough. That one has over 300 clicks recorded. Anyway, point being: Don't you want to be seen?

Dave Cockrum age 63 passed away yesterday of complications due to diabetes. He will be sorely missed by many of our staff and fans alike. As a major contributor to books like the X-Men Dave captured many hearts and minds on his comic journey's and now he must start a new one. We'll miss you Dave.

Plus yet even more great news we will soon be unveiling something that no one else is really doing (aside from japan) and we'll be doing it ina way that is rarely done anymore.

William Messner-Loebs and Brian Germain have been kicking out some more illustrations for our sister company COM publishing in order to make one of their imprints (Sword and Science) debuts "Legerdemain" as successful as possible.

The Motor City Aftermath... and An introduction to Rage!!

I would love to say that the Motor City Convention was a smash success because in many ways it was We had William Loebs (writer on THE MAXX) and several others with us. Novelist P.S. Ramsey was on hand to sign her new primer preview book for her "Legerdemain" Novel. We also had the Dark Elf Debut of "The Sorrow" Created by J.S. Earls for more information CLICK HERE We Showed up at the Motor City Convention with No printas and half a table less than we had bought not to mention the 1/2 tables that we got were spread over four rows instead of right next to each other. Thanks to Roberto of Core Studios who came up with a great solution for setting up so everyone was all good then. About the time we got set up was when I realized I had not brought any prints to the show.

All in all though things Still went well at the show and 2 time Pullitzer prize nominee Mark Messler came to the show and stopped by the booth to chat it up with yours truly I also recieved a great Moonshadow sketch by Art Baltazar whom you may know as the creator of "Patrick the Wolf Boy" God willing I will put that up later.

Now I'd like to introduce everyone to my Newest creation that I am working on Hopefully he will be a great character in his own upcoming full color comic/ graphic novel everyone, meet GRIMMSTONE!

The Absence of Presence

Spring is well... springing! and any Dark Elf Fans and many members know what this means.. it's the spring edition of the Motor City Comic Convention. for those of you who didnt get money to us in time to join the group just ask to be by Derek Baillie, Brian Germain, Roberto Armstrong and that should just about do it but there are no guarantees beyond this point.

I have been ultimately preparing myself for a move in venue for my personal life in addition I have been cleaning off my dinosaur of a computer that is incredibly full of dark elf related material, and attempting to switch over to a newer faster stronger much meaner machine. this new mahine will also help me fix some e-mail problems many of you maybe realize the e-mail is bouncing alot... why you ask? because it is getting that full, that fast!!! anyway dont think by any means that we are down for the count because from where I am standing we are just getting started. However if we have been too busy to get back to you just keep resubmitting or sending us information every month or so and we will do our best. forgive our dust and currently slow turn around times.

Dark Elf Goes Full Throttle into 2006

First off lemme apologize for being impossible to reach as of late. I'd like to say that it wasn't on purpose but parts of it were. Between being very busy and dealing with real life I haven't been able to focus on the web aspects of the company like I'd like to.

With that in mind Let me let you in on the latest and greatest news that I have to share. Aside from the spring edition of the Motor City Convention Speeding it's way toward us at a rapid pace, 2006 will bring us into new territory with Dark Elf Designs. Long awaited contracts have been nearly finished in the polishings we hope to get them out before the convention. A new year brings new investors, new members, and new potential investors. I am hoping these contracts will help seperate the men from the boys and the women from the girls by keeping those who are really serious about sticking with it and making something, and getting rid of those who are just on the website because it helps make them look credible. Though this is partly what the website is about I want people to make no mistake we ARE a business with the interest of making money and now we are a corporation so the interest in making money has grown. this has it's ups and downs obviously but hopefully in this instance the ups will outweigh the downs. Those who aren't serious about doing good work will not benefit much but those who are will benefit a great deal.

On a sad Note I have just found out that Jasmine Grey a beautiful person model and friend of mine from the conventions died in a car accident on december 10th if you know who she is and would like to make donations to her family for a headstone please check out www.jasminegrey.com

On a brighter not however I have just re-aquired an investor for "The Sorrow" #0 by J.S. Earls and crew. If I can attain the book again Jeff and his crew have waited patiently for over a year to get this important piece of literature published. so hopefully there is no more complications with it. We may even truy to solicit to Diamond once more after it is published(printed) but at this point I am not holding my breath.

I am also still crossing my fingers from the investor as a said agreement isn't always a sound one but this one looks pretty secure so anyway hope you are all having a decent year so far and I look forward to the rest of this one.

Hey all sorry about the inconveniences and lack of communications and updates on the website. We have been having computer and personal issues aplenty to deal with but I assure you we will be ready for the October 15th-16th, Motor City Comic Convention at the NEW "Rock Financial Showplace" on Grand River avenue in Novi, MI
Hopefully we have addressed most of the computer issues and I am starting to be able to deal with the personal issues a little more objectively so we can get things moving on track once again. And we look forward to have a great year next year as we get some projects doen to finish out this year. I will try to have David Update our Project list a.s.a.p.

We have several new updates waiting to go up and a new section as well as the continued overhaul of the website please check back frequently to learn more.
